I’ll Follow the Sun
Shelley Lawrence Kirkwood

Please join us for the exhibit of the dynamic, large-scale botanical works by photographer Shelley Lawrence Kirkwood. Kirkwood, an artist, writer, educator, and a forest therapy guide. Her works have been exhibited internationally, and published in numerous magazines. A portfolio from this series was recently awarded best-in-show by UK’s Royal Horticultural Society at an international exhibition hosted by Saatchi gallery.

This collection of colorful macrophotography uses foraged plants from the Sonoran Desert and the forests and meadows of western Massachusetts — two distinct landscapes this photographer has called home for much of her life.

She says: “The process of isolating and combining these specimens offers an opportunity to experience the tension between ephemeral and the eternal as we experience it in nature. In isolation, cycles of growth and decay become more apparent, revealing the singular grace of each form, and evidence of the particular environment from which it emerged. I view each of these as an homage to these places and their significance in my own history. An observance of the elusory nature of time, this project reflects my own transient presence in the places I hold most dear.”

Exhibit opening Friday, May 6, 5-7pm. Suggested donation $5.

Gallery hours are on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday afternoons 1-4pm through June 30th. Hours are occasionally subject to change; please call ahead. Other times available by appointment at 860-535-2300.
